4
& 5 String Violin Necks
4-String
Necks
All Zeta four string violin necks conform to the standard
measurements and key positional references of traditional
violins. Scale length, string spacing, distance from neck
heel to volute, and fingerboard arch all match the standards
set by violin luthiers. The neck width at the nut, thickness
of the fingerboard, and profile shape of the neck shaft
follow established guidelines for comfort and playability.

5-String
Necks
The 5th string on Zeta’s five string violin models
consists of the addition of a low “Viola” C to the
instrument, essentially giving the 5-string violin the range
of both a violin and a viola.
The fingerboard width is increased to accommodate the 5th
string, but the individual string spacing is decreased so
that the sum of the distance between all five strings does
not make the neck unmanageably wide or unplayable. Even so,
some adaptation in fingering and playing style is necessary
when playing the 5-string violin models, since the spacing
between the strings will be noticeably less and will feel
“tighter” than the standard 4-string spacing.
